The government has paid attention to the promotion and application of technologies to promote product development and profit improvement of local enterprises. Scientists are offered at least 20 per cent of incomes from the achievements they develop. By the end of 1999, the city had 49 enterprises involved in high and new technologies, which had 12.548 billion yuan worth of technology trading and 1.372 billion yuan worth of technology trading and 1.372 billion yuan of profits and tax annually. It has three provincial-level high & new tech industry parks and 174 R&D institutes, which work closely with Chinese institutes, which work closely with Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xi'an Jiaotong University and a number of other R&D institutes and University.

Education

A long tradition of respecting education and running schools enables. Shaoxing people to have good education. The government adopts the nine-year compulsory education system and continued education. PCs, Internet and other modern accessory means are widely adopted in education.
