HUMAN

The government is working to improve workers' skill through technical training and skill assessment. So far, 110,000 persons have been certified with different professional skill certificates that are acknowledged by the State.
A large number of talented people from other parts of the country are invited to works in Shaoxing every year through job fairs.

MARKET

Shaoxing is a city of marketplaces. Because of the competitiveness of several local industries. Shaoxing has built 356 marketplaces with total annual transaction of 60.1 billion yuan. Nine markets have an annual transaction of at least 1 billion yuan. They include specialized markets of neckties, pearls, dyestuff and textile materials.
China Light and Textile Industry City is the largest marketplace of textile in Asia, and its transaction has been the second highest among specialized markets in China.

NATURAL

Shaoxing is densely covered with rivers and lakes, including Cao’e River, Puyang River, Hangzhou-Ningbo Canal and Jianhu Lake. It has 5.88 billion cubic meters of aggregated water resources, and 17,000 hectatres of fresh water available for aquatic production.

There are more than 60 minerals that have development potential and mining value. Its reserve of iron and copper accounts for 70 per cent of the total in Zhejiang Province, and that of diatomite ranks first in China.

TOURISM

Shaoxing is famous to the world with its long history and civilization, picturesque landscape, and unique folk customs. It is a place renowned for its water, bridges, wine and calligraphy. Several outstanding persons who were influential in the Chinese history were born in Shaoxing, and their former residence and heritage have become part of Shaoxing's attraction to tourists. The famous ones include the Former Residence of Lu Xun, the Former Residence of Cai Yuan pei, the Former Residence of Qiu Jin, Ancestral Home of Zhou Enlai, Ancient Towing Path, Emperor Yu's Tomb and Lanting Pavilion.

In addition to abundant tourism resources, Shaoxing has good facilities and services to facilities tourism industry. It was one of the first Excellent Tourist Cities certified by the National Tourism Administration in 1999.
There are 51 hotels catering to overseas tourists, including two four-star ones and 12 three-star ones. Shaoxing has 38 travel agencies, including two handling international business. In 1999, some 6.033 million Chinese tourists and 39,500 foreign tourists visited Shaoxing.
